Morena Poised to Pass 2025 Mexico City Budget

The 'Juntos Haremos Historia' (Morena) caucus in Mexico City has indicated that they do not anticipate major issues or resistance from the PRI, PAN, and Citizen's Movement. Therefore, as early as next Monday, the ruling coalition could advance one of the fundamental initiatives for 2026. As reported by LPO, the Head of Government sent the budget for the upcoming year, which was drafted by the Secretary of Administration and Finance, Juan Pablo de Botton. 'We see that the government is rushing because of the World Cup,' criticized the former local deputy, who also stated that her party had held forums and consultations with professionals from various fields to present projects to the ruling coalition for the coming year. Additionally, the PAN coordinator, Andrés Atayde, demanded greater transparency in the budget process, claiming that the income law sent to Congress would be 'below what the city actually earns,' creating a source of funds that the current administration could spend at its discretion without providing further details to the Legislative Branch. Nevertheless, at the Palace of Donceles (the Congress building), they are optimistic that despite the PAN's resistance and observations, the budget will be approved without major problems for Morena and the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, whose main challenge in 2026 will be hosting the FIFA World Cup, for which five official matches will be held in the capital. According to sources from the 'Morada' caucus consulted by this publication, the project does not include surprising or notable changes, as it neither creates new taxes nor promotes new rights for different sectors of society. The Morena parliamentary group in Mexico City is accelerating talks with the opposition to approve the fiscal budget for Head of Government Clara Brugada for the upcoming year. To this end, the president of the budget commission, Valentina Batres, is leading the internal work to ensure a smooth passage through the plenary session next week, allowing Head of Government Clara Brugada to have the regulatory and economic framework for the coming year. In turn, the president of the PAN, Luisa Gutiérrez Ureña, announced that her party will fight to ensure that next year's budget strengthens 'security, infrastructure, dignified housing, transparency, mobility, and water.' In this way, no major discussions are arising with the opposition, which, despite some observations, could vote in favor of the budget without major issues. Morena is advancing with the investigations into the events of November 15th and creating a special commission. In this way, the Fourth Transformation could approve the project without major changes or resistance next Monday, during the last ordinary session of the current local Legislature.
